Waste collection is the only municipal service that is equally performed for all citizens in the community. Waste production is constant throughout the week and if it is not collected every day it will accumulate. On Sundays for example, waste is piled up in homes until is collected on a Monday or a Tuesday, depending on the collection frequency contracted by their municipality. The transport systems are designed to cope with this excess waste created at the beginning of the week o after holidays. Conversely, is not prepared to handle three to four consecutive days of accumulation. It would be too expensive for the municipality to design fleets that could handle these types of contingencies and thus to the community that pays for the waste collection services. If for any reasons, waste is not collected with the planned frequency it was designed for, waste will end up building up in the streets. This will cause serious sanitary problems, producing annoying and damages to people. In a more serious case, the extreme accumulation of waste in the streets could drive in a sanitary emergency.
