What is “sustainable development”? PDF Print E-mail

There are many definitions for the term “sustainable”. Generally, all of them aim to condition economic development to certain fundamental values of respect to the human condition and the environment. This process – as is the economic development of countries- will be sustainable if three basic conditions are met: (1) economical viability; if the economic cost is inferior to its economic profit. (2) Environmentally friendly; development that assures a clean and healthy environment for future generations. (3) Socially responsible; all people related to the development process need to be considered, measures have to be taken to protect them from any negative impacts, and to make them partners on the benefits of the process through a “good neighbor” policy.
