Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol defines a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Its purpose is to help developing countries to achieve a sustainable development and to contribute to the ultimate goal of stabilize the concentration of GH gases in the atmosphere. To help countries reduce their emissions (annex 1) and meet their goals to limit them based on agreements made  on this Protocol ( 5.2% in average).
Clean Development Mechanism promotes the finance of projects with improved technology in developing countries. It allows for both governmental and private sector to participate and  offers a conduit to of technology transfer to developing countries.
