Furans (polychlorinated - dibenzofurans) are made of 135 different compounds and have similar effects as dioxins.  Their sources are the same and they are considered the main pollutants on polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs. When dioxins or similar compounds are mentioned in reference texts, furans and PCBs are also included.
