Sludge Sustaintable Treatment
Appropriate sludge management, a challenge for the Global Production industry.
As an answer for the protection of the environment, different types of technologies have been created to treat waste water and industrial liquid waste. This type of waste generate large quantities of sludge is mainly disposed in sanitary landfills.
Currently, there is not an efficient managing process for sludge. It represents a problem for future generations in the mid to long periods.
On this sense, Demarco S.A, part of the Urbaser-Danner Group started an innovating project called “Sustainable Treatment of Sludge”. The project was sponsored by Chile-Sweden Cooperation Fund, the support of the Swedish Environmental Institute (IVL) and the Borlänge Energi company.
The project had a duration of 15 months and its objective was to compare different technological available options to treat sludge generated by waste water plants and industrial liquid waste. The project identified feasible alternatives to implement sludge as a resource and not as a waste product, and to provide solutions through sustainable technologies.
